Ready to Roll: Road Trip Tips
Summer is knocking, and that means it’s time to hit the open road! Whether you're heading west to the Rockies or discovering hidden gems right here in Alberta, a little road trip prep goes a long way. Here’s how to make the most of your journey without losing your cool, your clean car, or your fuel budget.
Give Your Ride a Little TLC
Think of it like this: your car’s about to go on a vacation too so a little prep helps it go a long way.
Top Up the Essentials: Check your oil, coolant, windshield washer fluid, and brake fluid. A quick check now can save a headache later.
Tire Time: Make sure tires are properly inflated and in good shape. Low pressure = more gas and less grip. If you still have your winters on, it’s time to swap.
Clean Slate: A clean car inside and out isn’t just for looks. It sets the tone for a smooth ride. (P.S. We’re opening soon with all the wash options you could want!)
Drive Smarter, Save More
Fuel’s not cheap, but with a few tricks, you can make your tank last longer:
Cruise Smooth: Easy on the gas, easy on the brakes. Driving in cruse control saves fuel and stress.
Lighten the Load: Do a quick trunk clean-out before packing. Your gas tank will thank you because the lighter the load the less fuel it needs.
Plan Pit Stops: Knowing where you’ll stop helps avoid backtracking and last-minute detours.
Screen-Free Doesn’t Have to Mean Boring
Keeping everyone entertained without screens might sound impossible, but it’s not:
Old-School Fun: Try games like “I spy” or the classic license plate hunt.
Podcasts & Audiobooks: Choose stories or trivia the whole car can get into.
Music Time: Let each rider pick a few songs for the road trip playlist.
Snacks: Fuel for Humans
You need good fuel, too especially if you’re skipping fast food:
Healthy Nibbles: Tired of sandwiches? Think homemade, portable snack packs, charcuterie style with grapes, baby carrots, cucumber, craisins, nuts, cheese sticks, jerky and whole-grain crackers.
Stay Hydrated: Bring a flat of water or fill up large jug to top everyone off with ice water - save yourself the convenience store prices.
Smart Storage: Use small containers to portion snacks and avoid the “snack avalanche” every time someone opens a bag.
Trash Happens—Be Ready
Let’s face it—road trips are messy. Keep things under control:
Grab-and-Go Garbage Bags: A simple grocery bag in the back seat does wonders.
Wipes Within Reach: For sticky fingers, dusty dashboards, and everything in between.
Mini Cleanups: Take 2 minutes at gas stops to tidy up. Future you will be grateful.
🚙 Your Vehicle Loves a Good Stretch
Believe it or not, your car enjoys the change of pace, too. Long drives help burn off carbon build-up and keep your engine running smoothly. Just don’t forget to treat it to a wash and vacuum when you’re back—we’ll be ready for you soon in Seton!
Happy road tripping! Stay safe, pack snacks, and keep it clean out there. And when you return, we’ll be here this summer to get your car looking road trip-ready all over again.
